What We Heard
Thank you to everyone for taking the time to review and participate in the Skateboard/All-Wheel Park and Outdoor Hub survey! 240 people visited the site page and 166 responded to the survey. Here is some of what we heard.
Respondents were overwhelmingly in support of redeveloping the City's skatepark (92.2% of respondents):
... and even (slightly) more enthusiastic about the idea of an outdoor recreation facility hub (93.4%):
In general, the following amenities were considered the most important:
- Lighting
- Availability of drinking water
- Accessibility and mobility supports
- Availability of washroom facilities
- Benches/seating areas
Respondents were also able to provide additional comments, and the following themes emerged:
Accessibility
- Paved, universally accessible trail system; wide pathways
- Accessible public washrooms - wheelchairs, chariots, etc.
- Wheelchair access and ramps
- Accessible picnic tables
Amenities
- Engaging for all ability levels
- Water fountains and washrooms
- Shaded areas
- Signage explaining park etiquette
- Parking
- Viewing/spectator areas
- Garbage and recycling
- Shelters to extend seasonal use
- Other fitness elements
- Pump track
Safety
- Fencing
- Safe spaces for all ability and mobility levels
- Safe crosswalks
- Better sidewalks and road maintenance
- Pedestrian rail overpass
Other comments
- Future-proofed against climate change
- Expanding the scope to all types of recreation could leverage interest and support from different groups and users
